Bakery Workshop in Amarillo
What a weekend! That snow storm about canceled my plans to go to Texas for a bakery workshop. I was contemplated all morning on Saturday whether to go or not. Amarillo had a blizzard on Friday and I kept checking the radar and road conditions to decide whether it was safe to leave. I finally decided to go for it, the radar looked like it was about done and I checked with the people in Amarillo and the highway that was previously closed going into town, was back open. As soon as we got a bit south of Wichita, the roads were just fine. I am so glad we went.
I am a member of the Retail Bakers Association of America, a national bakers group. The group that met in Texas was the Greater Southwest group, a regional group. It is made up of bakery owners in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico and Louisiana. I am the lone Kansan in the group. I always learn so much and enjoy the camaraderie of being with other owners. We share ideas and just learn from each other. I was asked to present some ideas from my bakery. So I shared some of our cute cupcake ideas and cakes for Easter, as well as some time saving tips that we use at Cheri's.
The workshop started at 8:00 Sunday morning until about 4:00, when the board of directors met. I was asked to be on the board and am honored to be involved.
We all (about 35 people) went out to The Big Texan Sunday evening. It was good food and lots of fun as you can see.
And, of course, everything is bigger in Texas! I wasn't going to get in the chair, but they made us, hat and all. What a fun time. I look forward to September for our next event.

Birthday Tier
Here is a fun birthday tier for one of my favorite customers. Her daughter said she has never had a real birthday cake for herself so she ordered a sheet cake for her. Well, she has been a loyal customer for years and just a wonderful person and friend. So we changed her order a bit a decided to take her sheet cake up a notch. Happy Birthday Deb!
Today is "Wear Your Favorite T-Shirt" Day at the bakery. I, of course, have my new Barry Manilow t-shirt on. My husband went to Vegas and brought it back for me. I already have two, but needed an excuse to wear this one. It is fun the the employees, but really, I just wanted to wear my Barry shirt. Take care in this crazy Spring weather.

Hoppy Thursday!
We are working on some new things for Easter, remember it is just 2 weeks from this Sunday.
This is a cute cake bunny that would make a wonderful centerpiece. We will be doing them in two sizes. They don't serve alot, but they are adorable and the kids will love them.
I have been working like crazy this week and am behind in posting. I am going to Amarillo Texas on Saturday. There is a workshop on Sunday at a bakery there. I am so looking forward to this trip. I get to talk shop with other bakery owners and view another bakery. I always learn so much. They have asked me to do a decorating session as well, so I am flattered. The owner said she just loves our cakes. I will let you know how it goes next week. Have a super day!

Poker Cakes
Yesterday I showed a couple cake options on the same theme. Here are a couple of poker cakes that we have done. The cake above is a fondant cake with sugar cards and chocolate poker chips for decoration. It is a very impressive design, but is also takes awhile to make so the price is reflects that. Below, is an option we did for a party that is a poker theme, but done in chocolate buttercream and the poker chips are drawn in buttercream. Still a great look, but perhaps gentler on your pocketbook. Remember, there are always options to every theme. We can design with your budget in mind.
I am going to get some computer work done today. The big girls are back at K-State and the other two are on off to school. I sure enjoy having everyone home on Spring break, but the alone time now is also wonderful. The bakery is closed today, so see you tomorrow! Have a great Monday!

This pretty cake was done for a bridal shower yesterday. It is a smaller buttercream version of the Tiffany gift box and high heel shoe cake pictured below. It shows how we can turn a cake design that may be too big for you party or too expensive for your budget and brainstorm to come up with the perfect option for your event. We designed this cake in the shower colors of periwinkle and a pretty green. My cake artist Kalee did a wonderful job and I know it was a fitting centerpiece for the party. Bring us your ideas, we love to come up with new options!

Another First Birthday Design
I just had to show you this cute cake. It it based off a design I did a couple years ago. This is a smaller version in the colors of the party. Kim iced the cake in chocolate buttercream and added the details in colorful fondant. The monkey is hand sculpted out of gumpaste. Use your imagination, this could be adapted to different themes or animals. We love a good decorating challenge!

We have a busy day with cakes and quite a few decorated cookies to get out. Here is a fun Easter cake. It has a cake basket on top filled with candy eggs. We also do these as 8-inch round cakes filled with candy or flowers. They are on display at the bakery, check them out in person! Have a wonderful springy Friday!!

Another First Birthday Design
Here is another first birthday design. We do a lot of princess cakes and this one is not too big, but oh so cute. It can be made larger if you need more servings. Just brainstorm with my sales team on an appropriate size of cake for you celebration. It can be made in any color and also be done for your little prince too!

Tennis shoe cake
I was going through photos that I have shot at the bakery. It is great to take photos of new designs, but it is also a lot of work to organize and catalog them for the books. I should do this weekly, but I just never find the time. So here is a fun cake we did for a nice young man's birthday, he is a bit of a shoeaholic, so we did his favorite for his 27th birthday. I forgot how great it turned out!
